Heavy D Dead At 44
Legendary Rapper Heavy D, who became famous in the late ’80s, has died in Los Angeles, at 44, TMZ reports.
Heavy D was reportedly rushed to the hospital around noon, after paramedics responded to a call placed from his Beverly Hills home. Still responsive when the medics arrived, he was pronounced dead at 1pm on Tuesday (November 8). The cause of death is not yet known.
The rapper’s death comes nearly a month after a comeback performance at the 2011 BET Hip-Hop Awards, where he performed his best known singles, among them “Nuttin’ But Love,” “Is It Good to You” and “Now That We Found Love.”
In 1992, Heavy D rapped on a remix of Janet Jackson’s “Alright,” which reached No. 4. Janet wasn’t the only Jackson to sample Heavy D’s talents. That same year, Michael Jackson utilized the rapper for “Jam,” a major hit on the dance and Hip-Hop charts.
Born Dwight Arrington Myers in Mount Vernon, New York, the New York native made his big break in the industry as part of the group Heavy D & the Boyz, who released their first album Living Large in 1987. Heavy D was also an actor. He appeared in a number of films, including “The Tower Heist, “The Cider House Rules” and “Life,” and his television work included appearances on “The Tracy Morgan Show,” “Boston Public” and “Living Single.”
