Power Thought: Are You a Bionic Woman?

Remember the 70′s TV show The Bionic Woman? I use to love that show. Watching a smart, savvy and strong woman take on the bad guys and win was awesome. I had all the toys; the doll, her blow up house (that took all Christmas Morning to inflate), her bionic station, the outfits….EVERYTHING. I wanted to be the bionic woman. Yet, I was only a little girl that hadn’t experienced tough life occurrences. I only saw the end product. The bionic woman kicking butt and taking names. But who was Jamie Summers before her bionic prowess? How did she get through having a terrible sky diving accident that left her deaf in one ear and with out an arm. What were her days like from the time of her accident to waking up better…stronger…faster….the bionic woman?

She must have felt dispare, depressed, anger, and loneliness. We go through our own seasons of darkness and not knowing. However, what do we do in this “between time” can make us or break us. Yes, Jamie Summers was broken physically but she persevered mentally.

Turning turbulence into triumph is not easy but it become easier when we are positive and focused on being better, being stronger….being faster. Just this past week someone broke into my home and stolen my laptop amongst other family treasures. I was floored. Hey take the laptop but can I just back up my work. I have some important stuff on there man! I had to recreate everything. Not to mention I was laid off last December and have been freelancing while looking for another full-time on-air position to support my family. I have had enough drama! Now I’m not comparing a life-threatening accident to a break in and job loss. The similarity is taking a horrible situation and making it work for you not against you. Like Jamie, I had to move on from my situation and come out winning! So, I got back on the computer and started working on past projected and even brainstormed new ideas. No, I’m not thanking the people who broken in my home for a great brainstorming session or my past employer for cutting my position. However, I am thankful that in my time of anger and dispare I was able to recover and challenge my self to be better, stronger, faster. I’ve become my own bionic woman. So can you.

Can you image being bionic…A women on her “A game” all day everyday? During times when you are suppose to fall, you stand up and not only walk but run? Being bionic isn’t only a physical state but a mental state of mind. For us, it’s not about beating the bad guy. Its about beating…anger, depression, worry, fear and self-doubt. And winning at love, happiness, positivity, self control and life. Then beating the bad guy! (smile) Creating a bionic state of mind isn’t easy. You have work hard at it everyday. It isn’t a shield but an aura that lives within you everyday. Build on it and step into your world of unstoppable abundance! What won’t break you will make you. But we are bionic now….nothing breaks us!

So as I log on to You Tube lounging on my Select Comfort Sleep Number bed to watch Lindsey Wagner as the bionic woman. I can say Lindsey/Jamie finally after all these years….I’m rolling with ya!

DISCO QUEEN DONNA SUMMER DEAD AT 63

Donna Summer died after a long battle with lung cancer this morning at the age of 62. It is believe that she developed cancer after inhaling toxic particles after the 2001 9/11 attack in New York City.

She died in Florida and was trying to keep her illness under wraps as she was finishing up new material for a forth coming album.

Born Ladonna Adrian Gaines in Boston, Massachusetts; Donna started her career as a background singer for Three Dog Night in 1974. She rose to stardom with the track Love to Love you Baby in 1975.

Summer’s career soared with hits like “Radio,” “Last Dance,” “Hot Stuff,” “She Works Hard for the Money” and “This Time I Know It’s for Real.”

Summer was the first artist to score three consecutive number-one double albums.

Summer’s music career has landed her as the eighth most successful female recording artist in history according to Billboard.

Summer was most recently seen performing with Seal in David Foster’s 2010 PBS special Foster & Friends and on America’s Got Talent, performing with former contestant Prince Poppycock.

Summer married Brooklyn Dreams singer Bruce Sudano back in 1980. They had two daughters together.

Verizon Wireless to eliminate unlimited data plan

Verizon Wireless plans to begin eliminating the unlimited data plan it has provided customers who had it before the carrier introduced tiered pricing and dropped the unlimited plan for new buyers last year.

The new data-share plan, pricing for which hasn’t been announced, will provide a limited bucket of data that can be shared among family members or devices.

Happy 46th birthday @JanetJackson! Let’s go back to 1986…

Do you remember being that young sister who yearned for control and independence? In 1986 when Janet Jackson came out with the song “Control” it was our theme song. I’m all grown up, ready and ABLE to take on the world. Responsibility, relationships, school, work, family…I GOT IT. At that age it appeared so easy to be our “own woman.”

Once we have taken the “reigns of control,” we think we have won! We say to our parents (in our minds of course) HA! So why is it when we step out into the real world and begin to live life, we let others take the Control we so desperately wanted to claim? Whether it is your significant other, a manager on the job, a co-worker, or a so-called friend, these control grabbers are all around us. It’s time to put them in check!

When you allow others to have control, you are stifling your growth as an individual. Fears and hang-ups can stray you away from truly living the life you are suppose to lead. Instead of Gaining Control you Lose Control. Let me tell you, the only thing I want to lose are these last 10 pounds of pregnancy weight! OK, that’s another posting. Any whooo…

In order for you to have the life you are meant to have; you must reclaim control over your most valuable asset…YOU. Regardless of your situation, you can make a difference in your life today. Don’t let others dictate your importance, your thoughts, your time, your desires, your passion, or your career. You are perfectly capable of running the business of You, INC. As the chief executive officer of your life, put at the top of your to do list everyday; “I have the love and confidence in myself to make all decisions regarding (insert your name).” Girlfriend, it’s time for you to call your own shots.

Think back at being that young sister listening to Janet’s song “Control.” How did it make you feel: empowered, strong, confident, all of the above? Take those emotions and put them to work positively towards your better good. You are in the driver’s seat taking the journey of your life to greater heights. You have it going on, you are incredible, you are loved, you are fabulous, and by all means…you are in CONTROL!

I am reminded of the song “If You Believe” from the Broadway play The Wiz “If you believe…within your heart you’ll know…that no one can change the path that you must go…” We are told as children just believe in yourself and you can do anything! Ride a bike, Ace a test, etc…but as adults, our fears and the land of “unknowing” take over from time to time. Brett Blumenthal from Sheer Balance shares his motivation to remind us…we can find our way home to happiness and self-worth.

1. The Rough Patches: When we find that we hit a rough patch in our path to success, we need something to pull us out of the “funk.” Not every day is going to be a success…some days may be dull or may feel like we aren’t getting anywhere. It is at these times that believing in ourselves gives us the energy to keep going.

2. Rejection: Believing in ourselves helps us get through the rejections, the “naysayers,” the “you can’ts,” the “it won’t works” and the “nos” and, instead, gives us the confidence to pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off and try all over again.

3. Self-Confidence: Knocking yourself or even just forgetting to believe in your ability to do the things you want can take a toll on your self-confidence. This negativity, unfortunately, can become a downward spiral…ultimately undermining all of your efforts and sabotaging your ability to be successful.

4. It’s Contagious: Your belief in yourself is probably one of the best and most valuable sales tools and influences in getting others to believe in you. In all honesty, have you ever been eager to help those individuals who were doubtful of their own capabilities? Probably not. You may have felt badly for them, but you probably didn’t feel very confident in them. If you exude confidence and a belief in who you are and what you set out to do, other people will feel the same way. And, unlike the self-confidence point above, this positivity can bring new opportunities and open doors that may not have happened without your believing in yourself.

5. Why Not?: If you can’t believe in yourself, who CAN you believe in? First and foremost, you have YOU to respond to. You have YOU to count on. And, you have YOU to believe in. You are the captain of your ship, the master of your destiny…so believe in yourself to do what you want to do and be successful!

President Obama sat down with the ladies of the view to chat about politics, gay marriage and how First Lady Michelle Obama teases him.

On VP Jo Biden forcing his hand on gay-marriage…

“When you get to know Joe Biden, he is the most honest, straightforward guy,” Obama said. “He’s warm; he tells you what he thinks. We talked about it and what I said was I’m never going to blame anybody for telling what they believe.

I think it’s important for everybody in my administration to feel like, you know, we want to be disciplined, we want to make sure we’re getting the message out there but at the same time, on issues of principle, you know, I always admire people who go ahead and speak their minds.”

Cissy Houston Believes Reality Show Could Launch Bobbi Kristina’s Career and help the family heal.

The family that’s followed by cameras together stays together.

A representative for the Houston family confirmed Friday that Whitney Houston’s relatives, including Cissy, Bobbi Kristina and Dionne Warwick will all take part in an upcoming Lifetime reality show. And, sources tell TMZ, Cissy believes that the national exposure could actually work in young Bobbi Kristina’s favor.

The source says that Whitney’s mother thinks the reality series could “help with the healing process” and help bring attention to her granddaughter’s singing talents. Furthermore, the source says, Cissy hopes the reality show will help the entire Houston clan by “keeping the family as one. “The as-yet-untitled show will primarily focus on Pat Houston, Whitney’s sister-in-law and manager, but Bobbi Kristina will have considerable screen time too, the Houston rep confirmed.
